Tsukioka Yoshitoshi

Tsuchiya Yoshitoshi, widely celebrated as the last great master of the ukiyo-e genre, was also one of its most innovative artists. Spanning both the Edo period and the early years of the Meiji Restoration, his works reflect a deep concern for Japan’s rapidly changing culture. As Western techniques like photography and lithography emerged, he remained committed to traditional woodblock printing. His reputation continues to grow, earning him recognition both in Japan and the West as one of the greatest artists of his era.
