Kawase Hasui
Hasui was one of the most prolific artist of the shin-hanga movement, drawing inspiration from earlier ukiyo-e masters. However, unlike them, his prints did not focus on famous places but rather depicted tranquil and obscure locales in urbanizing Japan. Influenced by Western art, Hasui's landscapes showcased atmospheric effects and natural light. In 1920 he began designing snow scenes, which would become the best and most original part of his work.
